This ‘n That Sunday - Feedback Please!

I feel like I haven’t had very much to show you lately. A big part of that is because I’ve been making myself clean my craft/guest room before I could make any more projects. The room was frightening. Like, couldn’t walk in the room frightening. I’ve thrown a lot away, move a few pieces of furniture and organized like crazy. It’s still a little messy, but I finally was able to let myself do some sewing and made Jace’s little Ants in my Pants outfit. I realized that I can’t remember the last time I sat down to just sew something. I’ve missed it so much!

I’ve had the image of a dress rolling around in my mind for a while (partly what I would have done for the SYTYC finale, but with a little something else thrown in), and last night at 10 pm I thought it would be fun to finally make that dress. Nolan thought I was crazy and asked if I realized what time it was. The dress came together quickly until I messed up on the arm holes. Because I was serging all my seams stitch ripping wouldn’t go quickly so I went to bed instead. Hopefully I’ll finish it this afternoon so I can show it to you! Here’s a hint though:

As nice as it has been to not have a weekly deadline, I really miss the challenge from competing in SYTYC. Having a theme to create something from each week was a lot of fun and kept challenging me to think creatively. It was so fun to try to come up with a “winner” each week. I thought it would be fun to have a weekly challenge for myself. I know I could just follow along with the CSI Project, or any of the other competitions, but sometimes their themes would be too big or broad. And, I’d love to do challenges that fit with what you, my readers, would like to see! And then maybe you could participate too, if you wanted. Maybe we could even make it a link up? That is, if you’re interested!

So here’s what I need from you: let me know if you’d be interested in participating in a weekly challenge (not that you’d have to participate weekly, just the weeks that you want to). Maybe I could even find sponsors to giveaway prizes to a randomly selected participant each week. And, even if you aren’t interested in participating, what themes would you like to see me challenged with? They could be anything from kitchen to bathroom to Mod Podge to blue fabric to boy accessories… get creative!

And… I have 666 followers right now. It looks a little creepy, doesn’t it? Not that I’m superstitious and think it’s a bad omen, but does anyone want to bump me up to 667?
***Update: Yay! Up to 667. Thanks!***

Thanks for stopping by!

  1. Ooh, I love a good challenge. Lately, I've been too busy to even turn my sewing machine on...I think it may be mad at me...but I'm doing a photo challenge that was just what I needed to get me thinking creatively again. I can't promise I'd always participate, but I'm up for a challenge.
Possible themes: a certain color, using a certain tool or material, a certain word, (like your challenge this week is water), you could choose a revamp of something: shoes, old clothing, accessories...

  2. I think the idea of weekly challenges is great!! I've been having such a hard time lately coming up with project ideas. I think sticking with a theme would be awesome, that way there's room to do any type of project for any room!

  4. I would love to participate, sometimes I have too many ideas in my head and having a theme would help me to 'edit' and give me a push to make something and not fall into the trap of any mindless t.v., great idea!

  5. Oh my gosh, LOVE this!!! I've always wanted to participate in a contest like you did, but I'm not QUITE at your level yet! So a "fake contest", or a theme week, would be so much fun! I think you were asking for some input... so here's my 2 cents:
    A) entertaining your kids outside for free (or $5?)
    B) summer treats
    C) dresses for under a dollar amount
    D) no-sew sewing projects (as in stitch witchery, glue, paint, folds, etc)
    E) best full meal on the grill (entree, sides, dessert)
    F) best meal that doesn't require HEAT! (It has been SO hot outside...)
    G) best chair/mirror/frame/rug/etc make-over

Okay, wow, I sort of let loose there!!! Sorry. Just excited to join in!

  6. I like the idea. I've never done a challenge, but I have lots of fabric and time (darn 7pm bedtime for my little one) so I'd love to join sometimes!

My first suggestion would be to do what Julie said. I specifically like her options B, D, F, A, C, E and G.

How about upcycling something, re-fashion, an organization thing (like you're doing with your craft room... I know I could use some motivation), dessert using XXX ingredient, sewing with XXX color, handmade gift, date for under a certain amount, hand made fashion accessory, kitchen item, bathroom decor, storage solutions... ooo! I can think of tons!

So yes, you should do this!

    Please! :)
