An Elmo Backpack

2011-09-15 012

Jace loves Elmo—or “Yeyo” as he says it. I’ve wanted to transition to him carrying a backpack when we go places rather than me carrying a diaper bag. I looked around at places and saw some Elmo backpacks he would love, but they just weren’t the quality I could trust to hold up to our day to day use. So instead, I picked up a little Jansport backpack on sale at Fred Meyers the other day, and appliquéd a felt Elmo face on the pocket.

I googled “Elmo Face” and found an image, printed out four copies of it in the size I was wanting, and then cut out the pieces of Elmo’s face—his eyes, mouth, nose, and head. (I used 4 so I didn’t have to be careful about messing up another part.)

Then I cut them out of felt and glued the eyes, nose and mouth to the head, and then the head to the backpack. Showing it to Jace was the best part.

He LOVED it.

And then we had to go outside for a photo shoot. The other day after a family walk, I did a self portrait of us on the front porch with the camera sitting out a ways. Jace wanted us to sit down and take another one. Of course, I couldn’t say no.
