I’ve been crocheting along with Rachel at Maybe Matilda. My experience in crochet was very limited going into this project. When I was young my mom taught me how to do a basic chain. And a few years ago I got it in my head that I could make a blanket for my cousin’s baby. But reading a pattern sent me to my computer and google so many times that I finally gave up.
Rachel gave great directions. I just didn’t follow them very well. So what you see is the third try. Why is it that so many of my projects are examples of third time’s a charm?
Rather then join the two ends like the pattern called for, I sewed a button to one end with it folded in half long ways.
This way it can be worn like a scarf…
…a long loop cowl like the pattern called for…
…our double wrapped and buttoned for a warm and cozy cowl.
I’m thrilled with how it turned out I’m thinking some family members may get one as Christmas gifts??? Thanks, Rachel, for doing the Crochet Along! Now if only I could have you walk me through every crochet pattern I try… ;)

ReplyDeleteI've never crocheted but I think I'm going to try this.
ReplyDeleteIt's a very lovely cowl, and you look beautiful wearing it!
ReplyDeleteHi, I'm about to try the crochet along cowl (a bit late, yes, but I just found her blog) and I love your variation! i am not a crocheter (yet!) and I have a question: Do you have to sew or crochet in a button hole or do you just pop the button through the holes in the scarf? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteKelly--I'm excited you're doing it! I didn't make any sort of special button hole for mine, just popped it through the holes in the scarf. Ah, the beauty of crochet :) I'd love to see pictures of your scarf when you're done!
ReplyDeleteThanks for replying! I've got 8 rows down and like a gazillion to go, lol. I'll definitely share a picture when it's all finished!
ReplyDeleteSo I'm getting pretty close to finishing my cowl (woohoo!) and I was wondering if there is any sort of special stitch I should do for the last row to finish it up? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHey Kelly! Wahoo! Way to go! I don't remember doing anything to finish that last row off, and looking at it closely it doesn't look like I did anything except tie it off. Hope that helps!
ReplyDeleteThis is really cute! I need to make one ;) I stumbled on your blog from Serenity Now...tomorrow I am having a crochet pattern giveaway...stop by if you have a chance!
