Polka-Dotted Tunic Top

I think it’s safe to say that I’m on a quest for the perfect tunic top. And after this one, I think I’m just about there. I could have shown it to you a few days ago, but I just didn’t feel like making myself presentable and getting out the tripod.

I had ordered a few yards of a light weight, sheer polka-dotted knit for my shop a while back, and then thought I should use some for a top. It was just too cute to pass up. I lined with with a soft black jersey knit to keep it appropriate and wearable.

My original inspiration came from Quincee’s Boutique (as all my inspiration seems to these days). I loved this top instantly. My original plan was to do a draw string or elastic waist like in the inspiration. But then I saw this “My Favorite Tee Dress” from iCandy handmade.

I figured leaving the waist more adjustable would server me better as my size will be increasing.

I had already cut the dress/top as a sleeveless piece before seeing the iCandy tutorial, but now I wish I could have made it with the simple sleeves like she did. Oh well! If you’re wanting to make one, just follow iCandy’s tutorial… it’ll be a lot easier than my mismatched pictures (I was a hurry to finish this in time for an early Valentine’s date with Nolan).

I’m looking forward to playing around with more ways of styling it. I think I’d like it better with a colored cardi (a splash of color from the scarf worked well enough for now, though), and It might even work well with skinny jeans. We’ll just have to see. I will say that I love the way mixing brown and black is completely fashionably appropriate these days! Wearing my gray boots with this would have been way too monochromatic.

Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I LOVE it! You have the cutest style, and you've got me hooked on Quincee's FB page now, too! Their shop is only like 20 minutes from my house, but I haven't gone yet . . . I don't know where you live, but if you feel like making a trip to Utah, let's go to Quincee's together, okay? ;-) You look great and I LOVE the top! (Also, I tried to style my hair curly the other day like yours--it actually came out pretty well! I think it's still a little bit too short to really copy your look, but it turned out a lot cuter than I expected, and not too Shirley Temple-ish, which was a huge relief. Thanks for the hair-styling tips!)

  12. This is really cute! Tunics always seem to look much cuter on the hanger than ON me, but I like this one because it's a little more form-fitting.
