Baby Girl’s Nursery—We’re Making Progress!

We’ve been hard at work on Reese’s nursery. It seems like in order to complete one thing, though, we have to do two or three other things first. It’s a domino affect. The beauty of all we’ve been doing is that everything has been paid for by selling things on Craigslist or in our garage sale.

Speaking of garage sales…

We had our first garage sale this past weekend and I was thrilled with the results! Thank you so much for your tips left on THIS POST. We had furniture (mostly from cleaning out the guest/craft room), clothes and random décor items. Every piece of furniture sold except for a night stand I was fine with taking to Goodwill anyways.

We had lots and lots of clothes to sell and I appreciate my friend Jenea’s advice on pricing. She’s a great deal finder at garage sales, so I figured if I priced it in a place she’d be willing to pay, then I’d have success. And it worked! Once we were all done we loaded up the car and I took all the left over stuff to Goodwill, and the clothes went to a consignment store. It feels so good to have all the extra out of our house and the garage is the most open/clean it has been in YEARS. After listing one piece of furniture on Craigslist (it was too heavy for me to help Nolan bring downstairs in time for the sale) and selling it within 36 hours, we ended up making $200 more from the garage sale/listing that I had hoped for.

The money from the sale was used to pay for a mattress (we were given a box spring and frame from Nolan’s parents) and all the bedding for Jace’s big boy bed. Transitioning him up allowed us to move the crib and glider rocker over to the nursery.

It also funded a nightstand for Reese’s room. I visited the same antique store where I found our Radio Cabinet Turned Entertainment Center last summer. The hunt proved successful and I found this nightstand for $25 less than one I was looking at at Target.

We’ve also been working on the dresser/changing table. I found this dresser at the ReStore about a year ago for only $5! It had a broken top drawer, loose tracks on the rest of the drawers and the trim at the bottom was off, but all the pieces but one for the drawer were there. I figured it was too good of a deal to pass up (I don’t come upon deals like this ever) and thought we could fix it up to sell. It’s just sat in our garage since then. I’m having Nolan convert the top two drawer openings to cubbies and add a chunky trim around the bottom instead. Last night he got the bottom trim done and will finish up the rest of the wood work tomorrow. Then we’ll paint it!

I love the subtly colored furniture in THIS ROOM

…and the bright pop in THIS NURSERY. I’ll show you whether I went subtle or bright when it’s all done. I can’t wait to finish our dresser!

nursery window covering

I am mostly finished with the window covering for the room. I just need to add some reinforcement to the shade and then put a valence or cornice board up. I’m using the same home décor fabric to recover the glider rocking chair.

As far as what else I have left to do goes…
-Finish the crochet rug
-Finish the mobile
-Sew the pillows for the daybed
-Sew fabric birds
-Sew the diaper bag
-Make additional art/décor items
-Paint a large frame to go around the bird houses
-Hang all pictures and art
-Set up the room

It may seem like a lot, but I’m confident we can get it done in August. I’ve divided up the month and assigned tasks to each week. That way I don’t try to work ahead of myself or become overwhelmed. Plus, it’s a lot of fun!

Thanks for stopping by!
