The Mama & Baby Bag–Diaper Bag Pattern Review & Giveaway!

Oh Baby

We’re back with Oh Baby! week and I am so excited about what I have to share with you today! If you want to catch up on what all I’ve made and is being given away, go HERE for all the Oh Baby! posts.

I pinned this diaper bag way back… like 31 weeks ago way back. Either before I knew I was pregnant or right around when I found out. The picture grabbed me. Aside from the fact that the sample bag is made from adorable fabric, I loved the design of it. So imagine my excitement when Bonnie of Fishsticks Designs said she’d send me the pattern!

Bonnie’s patterns are available as an emailed PDF or a mailed paper pattern. I chose to use the paper pattern so I wouldn’t have to print off all the pages. But after seeing how simple the pieces are, I’m confident the PDF would be great too. I enjoyed making this bag because the pattern is so easy to follow. It came with full picture directions, and none of the steps would be too hard for a beginning seamstress since Bonnie guides you so clearly through everything you do. I tend to skip steps when following patterns, but since I was doing a review for this one, I wanted to make sure and do everything correctly. I’ve made quite a few bags over the years, but felt like I learned from Bonnie’s steps and methods for assembling this bag.

Momma and Baby Bag 2

Not only was the bag simple enjoyable to assemble, it is full of features that I’m going to love having in Reese’s diaper bag. I wish I could tell you which feature is my favorite, but I think I’m going to love them all! In the picture above you can see the cell phone pocket in the white patterned fabric. The pattern even walks you through making sure you put the pocket on the correct side for where you wear your bag so your phone is easily accessible.

Momma and Baby Bag 3

On the back is a zippered pocket the size of the entire bag. I love it!

Momma and Baby Bag 5

The front has two pockets with elastic in them that will be perfect for holding bottles, sippy cups or anything that needs to be held in place while easily accessible. Above those two pockets are two more pockets, and then a snap closure to hold the whole thing together.

Inside the bag there are pockets for the mama and the baby. I know I’ll have plenty of space for all my baby needs—diapers, wipes, nursing cover, clothes, etc. But also space for me so I don’t have to carry both a diaper bag and a purse. I also love how well sectioned off things are. This is similar in size and storage compartments to the diaper bag I had made for Jace, but better designed, so I know I’m going to love the way it functions for me.

Isn’t it so cute????

The last feature that I love is that the strap can be adjusted depending one where you tie it off (functional and cute!). I have mine so it’ll be a messenger bag, but you can also have it be over the shoulder or make it short enough to hang over the stroller. It’ll also be great for carrying the few items Jace needs around too.

Have I sold you on the wonders of this bag yet? You can buy it HERE. Bonnie has also generously offered to give two readers the PDF pattern for the Mama Baby Bag!

To enter, simply comment on why this bag appeals to you. For an extra entry, visit Fishsticks Designs where Bonnie has all sorts of practical kids’ wear patterns for sale and tell me which pattern is your favorite.

This giveaway will be open through Sunday, September 30 at 5 pm Pacific Time. Good luck!

***Disclosure: While this pattern was sent to me for review, the opinions expressed in this post are all my own.***

  1. As a mother of 2 boys with the hopes and prayers of adding more, this bag is perfect! no need to carry a bulky diaper bag and purse. It's an all in one. Plus my 4 year old carries legos EVERYWHERE so the easy to reach pockets are perfect for his little treasures!

  4. The bag turned out great Jill. I'm loving all of those pockets, and the adjustable strap is great for taller (or shorter) women.

  5. After having my second just over 3 months ago, I could seriously use a good diaper bag with lots of functional pockets. I've been using the free diaper bag I got in the hospital with my first, and it's just too small for both kids' stuff.

  7. I love the pockets all over the place in this bag not to mention the ample SIZE! As for the patterns on the Fishsticks Designs site I couldn't pick just one so it is a tie between the Which way out Hoodie and the Undercover bottoms! Those little boxer briefs were just precious. Also, with three guys under ten all in those type of underoos, as we call them at my house (lol), making these and saving the money rather than leaving the moths in my wallet lonely and hungry is a comforting one. I was eying the Playdate bag as a runner up as well because it looks nice and simple just what you need when running after 3 rambunctious boys.

  12. I love this diaper bag and your turned out so great! I have planned on making a diaper bag for my newest little man but he came over a month early so my material is still sitting there. I searched every where for a functional and cute tutorial. I wanted lots of pockets and organization. I have never used a pattern before (I always just eyeball it) and would love to get my start on one that is easy to follow and use.

  13. Checked out the site and love the cloth diaper pattern (I used cloth diapers with my 3 yr old and have been meaning to make my own) and the play date bag. I love that my little man could have his own bag for toys and such.

  15. My store bought bag's seams are ripping apart...and I've only had the baby (and the bag) for 5 months. I KNOW my home made bags would last a lot longer than this, but I just hadn't found a pattern I liked. This pattern looks a lot like what I already have and love, so I'd love to have one. Thanks for the giveaway!

  22. My daughter is going to be a brand new mom in February and I don't think she understands what it is going to take to be ready to walk out the door and not have to remember 2 bags and how much easier it would be with this one great bag. I think she will be so happy with ONE bag and ONE GREAT bag!

  25. I would love to have a bag that I can use all the fabric odds and ends from the nursery. None of the bags in the store have grabbed me like the nursery fabric. The elastic pockets and cell spot look really helpful.

  29. A very dear friend of mine is pregnant, and since her next oldest child is 10, they've given away all their baby stuff. I'd love to be able to make this for her and stock it with burp cloths & diapers! She's very stylish and it would be great for her to have a cool diaper bag/purse combination!

  30. I love the size and how I would be able to combine purse and diaper bag to cut down on the number of bags I need to pack and carry!

  31. Oh, I have had this bag saved in my favorites for a while now too! I love the design of the bag and that it looks so functional (no flap over the top!!!). We are 16 weeks pregnant, so I need to get started sewing for our little one, too, just as soon as we find out what we are having (if the little one will cooperate at the ultrasound! LOL!). Thanks for the chance to win!
